Travel Information
Airlines
If you are coming from the Bay Area or Chicago, your best option is Southwest Airlines. They have many daily flights from the Bay Area via San Jose (SJC) or Oakland. Flight from Chicago depart from the Midway airport.
There are non-stop flights from most major east coast airports, including D.C., Boston, New York using several of the major US carriers, e.g. United and American Airlines.
Transportation to UCSD from San Diego Airport (SAN)
There are many door-to-door shuttles serving the San Diego county. Just follow the signs for "Ground Transportation" at the terminal and an agent will redirect you to the correct shuttle stop. I usually use the Cloud 9 Shuttle. They accept all the major credit cards. The UCSD campus is located about 14 miles north of the airport.
Directions with car: [Yahoo!] [Mapquest]
If you are driving North(South) on I-5 get off at exit #28B "La Jolla Village Dr" and make a left (right) at the end of the ramp. Pass the intersection with "Villa La Jolla Dr" and the campus entrance and the Gilman visitor center will be immediately on your right.
Finding your way around campus
UCSD has an online interactive map that is quite useful to find your way around. The review is held at the main La Jolla campus. If you walk or drive from the suggested hotels you will arrive via the Gilman visitor center, where you can purchase parking tickets.
The plenary and one of the parallel sessions take place at the Natural Sciences Building (NSB), building 128 on the interactive map. There are balconies with Ocean View on the 3rd floor of NSB and up that are worthwhile exploring if you are looking for a quiet place to relax a little. The second parallel session takes place in Mayer Hall 5301, building 133 on the interactive map.
Parking at UCSD
On weekdays you need a parking permit to park in the Yellow and Green parking lots. Red parking lots require faculty permits, sorry! Parking is free on weekends and holidays unless otherwise specified at the lots. You can locate all buildings and parking lots by visiting the UCSD interactive map and entering the name of the building or the parking lot number. There are several parking lots close to NSB (p102 and p103) However, you need to purchase a day pass for $6, and there is no machine to do so at the parking lots near NSB. The most conveniently located machine to purchase a day pass is at the Visitor Information Center of UCSD on Gilman drive. Note: p104, the closest parking lot is a red lot, and thus off limits (faculty permits required), sorry!
